13 Women-Owned Pet Businesses We Love

Sora Caldwell: Indie Boho

Leveraging her corporate background in product and graphic design, Sora was first inspired to create her own line of beautiful dog bedding and accessories when preparing for her cavoodle Indie’s first gotcha day.

7 years on, Sora and her popular Australian pet brand Indie Boho continue to wow pet parents with their high-quality range of pet bedding, homewares and dog travel accessories featuring eye-catching original designs by Australian artists.

Francine Evans & Mallory McDonald: Awoo

Awoo‘s journey began in lower Manhattan in 2018, by two friends bonded by their matching black rescue pups.

Francine and Mallory had identified a gap in the pet product market: stylish and eco-friendly options were scarce. Determined to make a difference, they embarked on a mission to revolutionise modern pet accessories.

With a focus on sustainability, functionality, and style, they combined their design and manufacturing expertise to source durable, eco-friendly materials. Their vision was to create the brand they longed for – one that brings joy to pets and their owners while also promoting a greener, happier world.

Katy: Snoot Style

Katy’s venture into Snoot Style stemmed from her frustration with the lack of functional and durable dog coats in the market. Disappointed with subpar products contributing to landfill waste, Katy was inspired to create stylish, comfortable, and sustainable dog apparel.

From durable collars and leads to stylish raincoats and colourful bath towels, the Snoot Style range has something for every fashion-forward, planet-conscious pup.

Rose Shattuck: The Foggy Dog

It’s no secret we love The Foggy Dog here at Pretty Fluffy. Their signature Rifle Paper Co. products, quality craftsmanship and drool-worthy aesthetic have made them firm favourites every season.

After being unable to find a suitable high quality dog bed for her new puppy, Rose took matters into her own hands and enlisted a local seamstress to create her dream dog bed. Then, she went one step further.

Realising there was a gap in the market for beautiful, modern pet products, Rose made a bold move – leaving her day job to launch The Foggy Dog. From pet beds to collars, leashes, toys, and accessories, The Foggy Dog products are now stocked at over 700 retailers worldwide.

Simone Kingston: DOGUE

The idea for DOGUE began when founder, Simone Kingston, set out to buy a jumper for her dog Gulliver. After visiting several pet stores, she realised there was nothing stylish or suitable. So, Simone went home and knitted one herself!

After being stopped several times on the street and asked where Gulliver’s knitwear was from, the idea for DOGUE was born.

After first opening its doors in Sydney’s iconic Bondi way back in 1998, the DOGUE empire has since grown into an international brand with 9 stores, a country boarding retreat, doggie day spas, and of course, their unique in house label that produces on trend collars, fashion, beds and dog accessories for pups worldwide.

Nicole: Nicole & Baby

Fursace. Hairmes. Chewy Vuitton. If your pup loves a label, Nicole and Baby will be their new favorite place to shop.

Based in Sydney, Australia, Nicole and Baby is an online pet fashion boutique for good boys and girls who love a little glam.

With a master’s degree in Fashion and Luxury Business Management, Nicole was inspired to launch the store after adopting her Australian Silky Terrier, Baby, and realising there were limited clothing and accessories available for prestige pooches.

Amanda Shaw: The Barkday Planner

As The Barkday Planner, Amanda quite likely has the best job in the entire pet industry!

Amanda and her husband share their home with their seven furry children: Teddy, Lola, Cooper, Sooie, Sanford, Buckley, and Linden. While working as a science research associate, Amanda discovered her passion for pet celebrations after hosting a party for her golden doodle.

Ultimately, this lead to an incredible 180-degree career change, with Amanda now curating luxury celebrations and experiences for pets and people (as recently featured on ABC News!)

Sarah & Jane Matley: Coco & Pud

Based in the picturesque NSW Southern Highlands, Australian luxury pet brand Coco & Pud is a family-owned business led by mother-daughter team, Jane and Sarah.

Inspired by their two cavoodles, Molly and Maisie, the Coco & Pud brand combines elegant, creative designs with a passion for pet comfort and style.

Since its inception in 2015, Coco & Pud has evolved from humble beginnings into a global online pet boutique, offering haute couture for pets worldwide.

Karissa Newby: Wag & Wonder

If you’re like many pet parents, you want your dog’s style to mirror your own. That’s where Wag & Wonder comes in.

Founded in 2020, the brand was born out of a desire for stylish yet practical dog accessories – in particular, fashionable dog harnesses with bow ties. With her background in fashion and love of dogs, Karissa set out to create a solution.

The result? A signature design that allows bow ties to seamlessly transition between collars and harnesses – the ultimate in style for fashion-conscious pups.

Jessica Knight: Outback Tails

Jess is the founder of Outback Tails, a sustainable, uniquely-Australian pet accessories brand inspired by a love of indigenous art, and a desire to support Australian wildlife in need.

Featuring stylish dog accessories and eco-friendly dog toys, the Outback Tails range celebrates indigenous art, and native flora and fauna.

Jess works closely with the Warlukurlangu Artists of Yuendumu to design the products, with artists receiving 10% of all sales featuring their work.

Nikki Star: Saint Rue

Founded by stylish Frenchie mom Nikki Star, Saint Rue caters to city dog mums seeking stylish yet practical accessories.

Inspired by the chic streets of Paris and L.A, the brand offers streetwear-inspired leashes and harnesses for pups, with matching designs for their humans. Saint Rue products are vegan, cruelty-free, and their bold designs are sure to turn heads on any stroll.

Beyond fashion, Saint Rue is committed to supporting mental health, with a portion of proceeds going to The National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Emma Wilson: Herzog

Emma is the Michigan-based illustrator and designer behind outdoor pet accessories label, Herzog. Emma’s business side-kick also happens to be her ‘kick-ass’ mum, Maureen. Another inspiring mother-daughter team!

When Emma and her Aussie husband adopted a wolfhound mix, Werner Herzdog, Emma was inspired to design a range of modern, durable and eco-friendly collars that compliment both home and hound.

Herzog’s signature silicone-based waterproof dog gear stands out for being PVC-free and non-toxic – a safer choice for your pup (and stylish too).

Katrina Thomson: IDPet

With a background in making personalised clothing for people, Katrina’s love for her dog, Max, inspired her to extend her offerings to custom products for pets.

At beloved Australian brand IDPet, pets are truly considered part of the family, reflected in their vibrant range of personalised collars, beds, bowls, and placemats.

Recognising the unique personalities of pets like Max, Katrina launched IDPet to cater to pet owners who cherish their furry best friends – offering personalised products that celebrate each pet’s individuality.
